Welcome to Advanced gymnastics!

What you will be learning

Our advanced class will be focusing on progressing your strength, form, flexibility, and endurance. In doing so, we will be working on applying these aspects into the practice of our gymnastics skills to extend our knowledge and ability. 

What you will need to participate in this class

Attitudes and behaviours

  • A positive attitude towards trying new things.

  • A respectful attitude towards yourself, your teacher and other gymnasts.

  • A responsibility of performing your gymnastics skills safely and as directed by your coach 

This means that you should ask them questions if you are unsure of what to do.


In order to learn gymnastics safely, your coach will ask you and your parents to ensure that the space you are using is appropriate and free from any hazards. 

Any equipment required for the lesson will be communicated prior to or at the beginning of your lesson.

  • Cushions/pillows

  • Training aids, mats and shapes (if you have them)

  • Couches/mattresses

  • Ottomans

  • Soft toys/rolled up socks

  • Masking tape

  • Balls/balloons

  • Skipping rope

Prerequisite skills

  • Understanding and awareness of gymnastics shapes and skills

  • Foundation of strength and conditioning

  • Spatial awareness (this ensures that you are able to make corrections and feedback from your coach and also ensures that you are performing your skills safety).

What are some of the shapes, skills and exercises we will be performing?

Our goal is to continue progressing our strength and conditioning in order to master and correct our technique when performing skills. Additionally, we will be extending on our foundational skills.

  • Handstand - variations and form

  • Cartwheels

  • Round-offs

  • Jumps - Star, Straddle, Split

  • Leaps

  • Bridges - variations and form


  • Front, Back and Side support

  • Dish and arch shapes - variations and form

  • V snaps

  • Squats

  • Push-ups

  • Sit-ups  

  • Lunges 


  • Skipping with a rope

  • Jogging

  • Running

  • Burpees

  • High knee running

  • Chasse


  • Shoulder flex

  • Bridges

  • SL Bridges

  • Splits - front, middle, overpress

  • Back mobility 


  • Arabesque

  • Passe

  • Arabesque and Pasae variations

  • Hop – multidirectional

  • Balancing from height
