The Y KinderGym Program

Welcome to KinderGym!


What is KinderGym?

KinderGym is a parent assisted class, suitable for all children from 2yo to 5yo. It provides an introduction to the sport of gymnastics all while encouraging and developing social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Our online KinderGym classes will provide each child with an opportunity to engage in play like activities that centre around the core fundamentals of gymnastics.


What you will need to participate in this class

Attitudes and behaviours

  • A positive attitude towards trying new things.

  • A respectful attitude towards yourself, your teacher and other gymnasts.

  • A responsibility of performing your gymnastics skills safely and as directed by your coach.

Space

In order to learn gymnastics safely, your coach will ask you and your parents to ensure that the space you are using is appropriate and free from any hazards. 

Equipment

Any equipment required for the lesson will be communicated prior to or at the beginning of your lesson. 

  • Cushions/pillows

  • Training aids, mats and shapes (if you have them)

  • Couches/mattresses

  • Ottomans

  • Soft toys/rolled up socks

  • Masking tape

  • Balls/balloons

  • Skipping rope

Personal skills

  • Identify basic colours

  • Identify basic shapes

  • Count to 10


What you'll learn in a KinderGym class

Our goal in KinderGym classes will focus on the development of fine and gross motor skills, coordination, balance, spatial and body awareness, basic shapes, safety (landing), confidence, self-esteem and listening skills.

  • Needle kicks - adv to Scorpion kicks

  • Jumps - Rocket, Star, Tuck, Straight

Balance 

  • Arabesque

  • Pasae

  • Single leg holds

  • Hopping

  • Star rocks

Shapes

  • Angry cat

  • Happy cat

  • Front, Back and Side support

  • Dish and Arch

  • L, Straddle and Pike sit

  • Rocket, Tuck and Star shape

Safety landings

  • Motorbike
